Berlin, 9 November 2007 – "Power for Life – food and exercise" is our slogan that will get things moving at the forthcoming International Green Week", is how the Federal Association of the German Food Industry (BVE) and the German Federation of Food Law and Food Science (BLL) have announced their joint appearance at the trade fair in January 2008. Public interest in the topics of food and healthy living is exceptionally high. Together with business partners from the food industry both the BVE and BLL aim to make use of this opportunity and to continue along the path that brought success in 2006.

For the first time at the Green Week associations and companies representing the food industry will have their own combined stand directly next to the Farm Experience display. Taking as its slogan "Power for Life – food and exercise", a large combined stand of the food industry will be located close to the trade fair’s southern entrance, in Hall 1.2. There will be attractive areas where children and young people can exercise, and extensive information on dietary issues. In cooperation with interesting business partners the stands will present the industry’s numerous measures to promote healthy, balanced diets, as well as opportunities for enjoyment and exercise.
More than 10,000 visitors came to the stands of the two federations at the Green Week in 2007, underlining the success of their new trade fair concept "Power for life – food and exercise". The exercising areas and the many prizes they offered were the highlight of the fair for children and young people in particular, and had them longing for more.
Last year witnessed successful collaboration with Speedflipper (Ferrero), Fit am Ball (Funny Frisch) and the food aid organisation Deutsche Welthungerhilfe. Other well-known representatives of the industry will be attending in 2008, among them Abraham Schinken, Coca-Cola, Khne and the federations of the mineral water producers and poultry industry. This will make visiting the "Power for life – food and exercise" experience even more attractive and exciting.
Finding out about a healthy lifestyle will be fun this way. The focus is also on what we drink. Knowledge about liquid sustenance and an adequate liquid intake is an indispensable part of a healthy diet.
In 2008 numerous leading figures from politics, business and the media are once again expected to attend the BVE/BLL stand, where they will be exchanging views and information about the many products and services, and picking up ideas from the food industry about food and exercise.
During the events of the official supporting programme the BVE will be organising another highlight with international guests on 18 January 2008 entitled "Raw materials for use in foods – international trends and their consequences for the food industry". On the same day a joint event in cooperation with the CMA will give German exporters an insight into the dynamically expanding Indian food market.
Together with the German Farmers’ Association the BVE is the non-commercial sponsor of the International Green Week. As a leading association of the food industry dealing with economic policies it will be at the fair to nurture a broad range of political contacts, maintain the network of farming business members, exchange views with journalists, and talk to the consumer.
There are 5,900 businesses and half a million employees working in the German food industry, which makes and processes high-quality foods out of farming products. Last year its sales reached 138.2 billion euros, making it one of Germany’s largest commercial sectors.
The BLL represents federations and companies from the entire food production chain – the industry, trade, craftsmen, agriculture and related sectors. Food science and food law are the BLL’s core work areas, which include food hygiene, labelling, additives, gene technology, quality assurance, food additives and organic foods. The BLL maintains a special focus on the topic of food and exercise. The federation is heavily involved in this field and was among the founder members of the "Food and Exercise Platform" (peb) which promotes a healthy lifestyle.
