Berlin, 4 December 2007 – It is one of the main attractions of the International Green Week and will be open once again from18 to 27 January 2008 – the Farm Experience in Hall 3.2. In recent years it has developed a memorable and unique profile with its own distinctive combination of information and entertainment, which accounts for its popularity with the public. With this event now in its ninth year, its organisers continue to build on past successes. As Dr. Jrgen Frhling, General Manager of Frdergemeinschaft Nachhaltige Landwirtschaft e.V. (FNL) in Bonn, the coordinator of the Farm Experience, explains: "Our aim is to present modern, sustainable agriculture in a graphic and easily understandable way for all our visitors".
Impressive display, unique insights
"Just as we did last year, we are including the entire foodstuffs manufacturing process, covering every stage from the fields and livestock sheds right up to the supermarkets and shop counters. This provides consumers with realistic and comprehensive insights into the way that food is produced, and in a truly unique way", Dr. Frhling adds.
To ensure the completeness of the presentation the existing contributors have been joined by two new partners: the REWE Group and a national risk assessment agency, the Bundesinstitut fr Risikobewertung (BfR). REWE, one of the leading groups within the retail food sector, is using the Farm Experience to provide details about its achievements and its capabilities, with a particular emphasis on quality assurance at every stage from cultivation to its own production plants and the shelves in its REWE and Penny-Markt stores. In addition to conventional methods of cultivation the company is also featuring organic production. The BfR is focusing in particular on the correct way of keeping food, and will also provide advice for consumers on some simple ways of improving domestic hygiene.
Advice from the experts
One thing is certain: more than any other hall at this trade show, the Farm Experience provides a concentrated overview of the technical aspects of all aspects of agriculture and the food industry. Bakeries and meat processors, experts on plants and plant protection, the German Livestock Feeds Association and the Veterinarians’ Federation, quality assurance institutions and the producers of vegetables, fruit, honey and sugar will be providing interested visitors with reliable and detailed information about modern agricultural methods and healthy nutrition. Information will be available from more than 50 exhibitors from agriculture and the food industry on an area measuring some 6,000 square metres. Other topics will include food safety, milk production, the correct care of livestock, and modern techniques in livestock and arable farming. The information supplied by the rural social security organisation LSV will include the subject of preventive health care, with a particular emphasis on protecting the skin and hearing.
The Farm Experience will also feature an extensive programme aimed in particular at children and at schools. Following on from previous years, the central stage remains at the heart of the Farm Experience and is the venue for various discussions and for the programme of music and other entertainment. Some leading German chefs, guest celebrities and countrywomen will also be active in the show kitchen, entertaining visitors and demonstrating their capabilities. And there will be fresh farm produce and food from Germany for visitors to enjoy at the Farm Caf and the Restaurant.
Popular meeting place for families with children
The FNL and the other initiators of the Farm Experience, the Central Marketing Company for German Agriculture (CMA), the German Farmers’ Association (DBV) and information.medien.agrar e.V. (i.m.a), together with the other exhibitors, are seeking not only to provide down-to-earth information but also to appeal to all the senses. "With this approach the Farm Experience has become one of the most popular meeting places in recent years, especially for young families with children", according to Dr. Frhling. And each year there is particular interest, not only among the children, in the large and small animals on show at the Farm Experience. This year visitors can experience dairy cows, piglets, chicks and an entire hive of bees amidst very realistic surroundings at the Farm Experience.
Taking a close look at salad vegetables
There will also be a highly descriptive presentation from the plant world. According to a poll of visitors at last year's exhibition the field of vegetables was a major highlight for many of them. For some this was actually the first time that they had been able to take a close up look at lettuces, leeks and cabbages growing in a field, rather than packaged on supermarket shelves. Exhibitors will also provide details about plant protection, a topic of particular interest to amateur gardeners. The display will be rounded off by some of the latest Fendt tractors incorporating some innovative technology.
The Farm Experience is staged with generous support from Rentenbank. Deutschlandfunk is the official media partner of the Farm Experience. For more information about the objectives, subject matter and programme of the Farm Experience visit the website at www.fnl-erlebnisbauernhof.de.
