In addition to presentations featuring the gastronomy of 14 of the states in the combined show by German agriculture in Hall 20 and by six states in the special show "Village of Your Dreams" in Hall 21b, public interest will also focus once again on the attractive, individual displays. Visitors will find an effective mixture of innovation and tradition from Bavaria (Hall 20), Brandenburg (Hall 21a), Mecklenburg-West-Pomerania (Hall 5.2b), Lower Saxony (Hall 5.2a), Saxony (Hall 5.2a), Saxony-Anhalt (Hall 23b), Schleswig-Holstein (Hall 22a) and Thuringia (Hall 22a).

Germany’s federal states present regional culinary diversity

Let’s go to Bavaria

Bavarian specialities have always been extremely popular at the Green Week in Berlin. Many visitors begin their tour of this event at the Bavarian stand in Hall 20 with Munich white sausage, a "weissbier" (the typical local beer) and a Bavarian pretzel. And before they leave regular visitors stock up with genuine Allguer Emmentaler cheese, and other cheeses direct from the producers, such as the smoked variety from Lower Bavaria and mountain cheese from the Allgu. For many of them the greatest delight of all is a Silvaner wheat beer from Franconia, an ideal accompaniment to Bavarian cheese specialities. "Let’s go to Bavaria" is the slogan of the combined Bavarian stand in Hall 22b, featuring presentations by the providers of "Holidays on the Farm" and by manufacturers of regional specialities, on an area measuring more than 500 sq metres. The most well-known holiday regions will be presenting their some of their customs, culture and traditions on a stage.

The whole of Brandenburg in miniature

With items like mufflon in sauce, Knieperkohl cabbage from Prignitz, carp from Peitzen, fruit wines from Werder or horseradish from the Spreewald region, each year numerous visitors come to Hall 21a in search of Brandenburg’s culinary attractions. All the regions of Brandenburg can be found here in miniature, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the many attractions on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. During the International Green Week exhibitors from Brandenburg will also be represented in the CMA hall, No. 20, at the special show entitled Multitalented Wood in Hall 4.2, the Livestock Hall, No. 25, and the Bio-Market in 6.2. Minister of Agriculture and the Environment Dietmar Woidke (SPD) emphasises the important for his state of appearing at this trade show: "Interest among Berliners and their visitors in our state, its products and its tourist attractions remains undiminished. There could be no better time for us that at the start of a new year to promote Brandenburg." For the participating companies an appearance at the Green Week plays an important role in confirming the value of their products and provides a test market for new items too. Organic farmers, farming co-operatives, farms in Brandenburg with facilities for guests, the providers of holidays in the country and tourism close to nature, representatives of the wellness sector and craftsmen are all vying for attention. Examples of the region’s diverse culture can be experienced each day on the stage in the Brandenburg hall too. This colourful programme is being presented by two popular voices from the radio station Antenne Brandenburg, Marina Ringel and Carsten Gohlke. The station will be broadcasting regularly from has its own glass-walled studio.

Invitation from Mecklenburg-West Pomerania to relax in natural surroundings

In the midst of its busy Hall 5.2b Mecklenburg-West Pomerania is offering visitors to the Green Week an oasis of relaxation for the first time this year. Hidden from all the activity going on around, the three popular national parks, two biosphere reserves and seven nature parks from this state have created a place in which to relax in natural surroundings. For those in search of something more exotic there is ostrich meat from Mecklenburg, as well as meat obtained from game in the local forests. A total of more than 65 exhibitors from this Baltic state are presenting a wide selection of typical regional foods and other products which visitors can sample and buy. The two stages offer a varied and lively programme, one of the highlights being the Pirates’ Open Air Theatre with a colourful ensemble comprising actors, stuntmen and musicians on 19 January. Making their first appearance in the exhibition halls at the Funkturm are the band "The Pirates". One of the star acts from the well-known Gasparilla Festival in the USA, they will be transforming the Baltic beaches into the Caribbean. And on 25 January, in the middle of the winter in Berlin, the state hall will be celebrating a scintillating Caribbean party.

"Lower Saxony has got a lot!"

The display by the state of Lower Saxony occupies some 1,500 square metres in Hall 5.2a and in the combined states’ hall, No. 20. Various regions within the state will be presenting their customs, cuisine and natural attractions in accordance with the slogan "Lower Saxony has got a lot!". Among the attractions awaiting visitors this year are the Harz region with its national park, the Emsland with its herb garden, "Countrywomen’s Jam" and selected spirits from Berentzen, or alternatively they can call at the Weserbergland pavilion where they can learn to operate a ferry boat. The region around Brunswick and Knigslutter invites people to experience the Warberg castle with its elves and imps, while the Museum of Rural Crafts in Brry near Hamelin is presenting some long-forgotten skills. And because Lower Saxony is also renowned as a "dairy land" there will, of course, be a milk bar again, serving milk in its purest form, as well as invigorating and imaginative milk shakes and cocktails. Hitradio Antenne presenter Andreas Wurm will be on the lively Lower Saxony stage to introduce live music from a brass band and a gospel choir, as well as jazz dance, and there will also be many performances by the region’s actors, as well as cookery shows, quizzes and prize draws. And the best is being saved until last: each day, during the two hours before the doors close, it will be "Happy Hour" in the Lower Saxony Hall. The Wittinger brewery will be serving beer at half price, and milkshakes and cocktails will also be available at half the usual cost. More culinary attractions from Lower Saxony can be found in Hall 20. Together with the Land Bremen, Becks brewery and the companies Nordmilch, Nordzucker, Vion-Premiumfleisch, Azul Kaffee and Rausch-Schokoladen there will be "Lower Saxony tapas"" and an opportunity to discover some exquisite coffee and chocolate specialities.

The Saxony market place

Visitors to the combined display from Saxony in Hall 5.2a will find themselves unexpectedly transported to a large market place in that state. The 25 exhibitors have responded to the growing interest among consumers for enjoying something special in pleasant surroundings and from an unusual range of items. The market stands will be stocked with traditional, high quality agricultural products such as pastries and baked goods, beer, meat and sausages, potatoes, cheese, fruit and vegetables, juices and confectionery. In addition to publicising attractions for tourists, the state will also depicted by almost 200 artists from Erzgebirge, Elbland, Oberlausitz, Burgenland and Heideland. Visitors are particularly attracted by Saxony’s forests, and so this year’s focus is on the extensive presentation by the forestry and timber industries. Meanwhile the state’s display in Hall 20, the CMA hall, is dominated by the fish industry. Among the delights on offer are smoked fish, fish soup and carp nuggets, and there will be strong spirits too. Young and old alike can enjoy the spectacular stage show "The unbelievable story of how car came to Saxony", or watch celebrities in the glass-walled cookery studio.

Saxony-Anhalt offers "The highest place in the North"

For the third time Saxony-Anhalt is augmenting its combined stand in the states’ hall, No. 20, with a 2,000 square metre display that occupies all of Hall 23b. Based on the positive experiences of recent years the layout of the hall now includes regions such as the Harz and Altmark. Here food producers can be found alongside the providers of tourism facilities from the region. For the first time the Brockenwirt hotel in the Harz will be represented with a large stand. Using the slogan "The highest place in the north", regional specialities will be marketed, and there will also be a wealth of details about the Harz national park and its many tourism attractions. Saxony-Anhalt will be bringing more than 80 exhibitors to the Green Week. In addition to the events in the halls there will be several high ranking visitors. Minister President Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Bhmer, Minister of Agriculture Petra Wernicke and Minister of Economics Dr. Reiner Haseloff will be include a visit to their state’s display during this trade show, when they will be able to see for themselves the strengths of local businesses and the marketing opportunities available to them.

Schleswig-Holstein and its tasty food!

Schleswig-Holstein will be represented at the 73rd Green Week in Berlin by some 60 exhibitors, who will be meeting consumers and trade visitors to publicise the state’s attractions in the fields of food and tourism in Hall 22a. Culinary experts from all over the state will be preparing typical dishes using regional produce, and these can subsequently be sampled. Visitors can also gain some insights in to the secrets and techniques of "Molecular Cuisine". The inviting atmosphere of the market place in the Schleswig-Holstein stand in the CMA states’ hall, No. 20, is the ideal place to sample and purchase typical regional products such as sprats, crabs, smoked fish and Holstein hams. Pupils from the Technical College for Rural Home Economics in Hanerau-Hademarschen will be inviting people to take part in the ham tombola, which has now acquired a nationwide reputation. At the heart of the combined show entitled "Village of Your Dreams" in Hall 21b will be two so-called active regions in Schleswig-Holstein. For the first time Rendsburg and the region known as Dnischer Wohld – Httener Berge – Eckernfrde – Stadtrand Kiel will be staging a combined presentation under the heading: "Wide world – close at hand!". The link between them is the internationally important North Sea-Baltic Canal, more commonly known as the Kiel Canal, the most heavily used man-made waterway in the world.

This is Thuringia

Headed by three counties in Thuringia, Altenburger Land, Saalfeld-Rudolstadt and Weimarer Land (the responsible organisation being Wirtschaftsfrder-Vereinigung Apolda e.V.), the state’s possibilities as a food producer and tourism destination will be on show in Hall 22a. Visitors to the Green Week will find demonstrations of various crafts including cookery displays presented by Potato Parson Putsche, dyeing techniques from the dyeing centre at the village of Neckeroda, and presentations of the finest porcelain from Rudolstadt-Volkstedt. On 22 January the state will be seeking the nimblest fingers at the potato-peeling context on the Thuringia stage. There will be humour from Rudolstadt with Jens Bring, and the trio "Drei Thringer Trippelbrder" will offer some excellent musical entertainment. With the confident claim "This is Thuringia" a total of 20 exhibitors will be presenting regional specialities and some of the attractions that the state’s various regions can offer the tourist.
