FRUIT LOGISTICA 2008 exceeded all expectations

New attendance record: 50,000 trade visitors from 125 nations

Exhibition executive Dr. Gke: "FRUIT LOGISTICA is a premium product"

(опубликовано 04.03.2008)

Berlin, 9 February 2008 – The extremely high quality of the presentations, the high number of decision-makers among the trade visitors, and record-breaking attendance figures add up to a positive preliminary assessment for FRUIT LOGISTICA 2008. Some 50,000 trade visitors from 125 countries (2007: 43,000 from 120 countries) were in Berlin from 7 to 9 February for the biggest-ever international produce industry trade event. This year's attendance figures represented a 16% increase compared to 2007. According to Messe Berlin executive Dr. Christian Gke, "FRUIT LOGISTICA 2008 exceeded our high expectations and has evolved to become a premium product. The global market overview of the entire fruit industry value chain was more professional and comprehensive than ever before". In an area covering 81,000m of exhibition space, 2,110 exhibitors from 68 countries presented the full spectrum of the logistics services required to ensure a year-round supply of top-quality fresh fruit and vegetables to consumers all over the world. Around 88% of the exhibitors at this year's trade fair came from outside Germany. Three-quarters of the trade visitors came to Berlin from other European nations or from overseas countries.

Exhibitors and trade visitors commended the presence of the industry's top decision-makers along with the excellent contacts to wholesalers and retailers, fruit and vegetable growers, and to import and export companies. 98% of the trade visitors said that their participation at the trade had a positive impact on business. Once again in 2008, FRUIT LOGISTICA attracted a substantial number of top decision-makers. Three-quarters of those present were managers of their own companies or directly responsible for procurement decisions.

Officials from Marocco, this year's FRUIT LOGISTICA partner country, attending the event included Aziz Akhenouch, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, and Abdellatif Mazouz, Minister of Foreign Trade. The opening-day tour was led by German Agriculture Minister Horst Seehofer. Agriculture ministers from Egypt, Amin Abaza, Chile, Marigen Hornkohl, and Italy Paolo De Castro, were on hand along with 32 ambassadors and a number of official delegations representing countries from around the world.

The new FRESHCONEX trade fair for fresh-cut convenience products was launched this year in conjunction with FRUIT LOGISTICA. This 3-day event featured 62 exhibitors from 14 countries presenting a complete spectrum of products and services on 2,400m of exhibition space in Halls 7.2a and 7.2b. FRESHCONEX clearly gained from the trade visitor potential at FRUIT LOGISTICA: 15% of this target group demonstrated a keen interest fresh-cut convenience products. Exhibitors at FRESHCONEX reported excellent commercial results from the first day on and said that they managed to develop good professional contacts that will help boost post-trade fair business.

The money spent by FRUIT LOGISTICA visitors and exhibitors in Berlin and the surrounding area helped generate an additional EUR 100 million in additional purchasing power.
