Bakkavr: Year-round gourmet vegetables from Kenya, Peru and Thailand
Following the takeover of 5meSaison of France by the Icelandic Bakkavr Group, the French salad specialists are exhibiting at FRESHCONEX for the first time at a European trade fair as part of a large group of food industry affiliates. Along with the successful Vert Desire line, which generated annual turnover of EUR 26.3 million last year, the French company is also presenting Terra Nova, a new vegetable assortment for upscale grocery retailing. Through a network of producers from Peru, Morocco, Italy, Egypt, Thailand and Kenya, 5meSaison guarantees year-round supplies of top quality beans, peas, green asparagus and snow peas. These products are packed prewashed at the picking site to extend their shelf life. For Marketing Director Francois Veyri, FRESHCONEX is an ideal opportunity to test these new product lines for the German market.

Many of these technologies and systems have been created in close cooperation with customers, including the "Niagra" cascade washing system and the "Mistral" drying system for especially delicate products. The Italian company has achieved a unique position in the market for processing mushrooms. Fructofresh: Hand-cut fruit for upscale restaurants
Fructofresh Marketing Director Pawel Stobba understands the sensitive nature of his products. "Manual slicing is the only way to guarantee top-quality, fresh-cut fruit products. Melon, kiwi and other delicate fruits are easily damaged in machine processing". With 120 employees, Fructofresh guarantees optimum conditions for processing products certified to IFS and BRC standards. Company-owned refrigerated transport vehicles ensure an unbroken cold chain until the product reaches the consumer – a crucial factor for fresh-cut fruits that are not otherwise preserved. For single-fruit products, the Fructofresh portfolio includes all cutting shapes, from cubes, balls and slices, to fillets and to apple strips. The Poland-based company also supplies a variety of fruit salads: "Royal", "Extra", "Fantasy", "Classic" and "Exotic". Mr Stobba cites the company’s versatility in service and order processing as the key Fructofresh strengths.

From seed to shelf: Hessing handles the entire production chain
Hessing Supervers is profiled as Holland’s market leader for sliced fruit and vegetables. "Dutch consumers are rapidly discovering how practical and delicious fresh-cut vegetables are," reports Hessing Marketing Director Martin van Lierat. And factors like quality and freshness are especially important. The Dutch company owns 45 refrigerated transporters – an important component across the entire production chain. At FRESHCONEX, Hessing is primarily seeking to establish contacts with German grocery retailers. Along with ready-to-eat lunch salads and other standard products, the range includes complete wok dishes containing everything from pre-cut vegetables to spices and sesame oil. All components are packed separately in a practical plastic box. A brand new feature at the trade fair this year is the pizza kit – a complete vegetable topping, freshly cut and attractively packaged. These are practical food ideas for the modern household with little time for cooking but high standards when it comes to a balanced diet.
Univeg Legumex: 20 years of success in fresh-cut products
Many people think that the fresh-cut and convenience market has evolved by modern lifestyles. This makes it all the more surprising that the Belgium-based Univeg Legumex Convenience company was founded back in 1985 as one of the first fresh-cut producers in Europe. This experience helps the fresh-cut specialists supply today’s customers with customised solutions for grocery retailing and food services. Legumex is presenting a variety of ready-to-eat salad variations and fresh-cut fruit and vegetables at the trade fair. The company is also presenting the "Leckerbombe" (Yummy Blast), a product aimed at encouraging kids to eat fresh-cut products. "The "Leckerbombe" contains mixed fruit in a cup on a mango-pineapple puree packed with a small spoon – a perfect between-meals fruit snack," explains product development specialist Melanie Vanraaij. The product website (www.leckerbombe.com) offers a number of good ideas related to healthy eating.
